Let’s talk about the top stories in Hollywood this week!

The 2019 Golden Globes nominations were revealed last week. VICE, a biopic about Vice President Dick Cheney, has the most nominations at six. The Favourite, Green Book and A Star Is Born all tie for second place with five nominations. Click here to read the full list. (Golden Globes)

Today, the SAG Awards nominees were announced celebrating the best acting performances in film and television. A Star is Born has nominations in four of the six film categories including Best Cast, Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Lady Gaga) and Best Supporting Actor (Sam Elliot). Marvel Studios released the first trailer for the highly-anticipated Avengers: Infinity War sequel. The trailer revealed the official title (Avengers: Endgame) and confirmed that the release date has been pushed up one week to April 26, 2019. According to Disney’s Twitter page, the trailer set the record for most views in 24 hours (289 million). (Disney)

Disney Pixar announced a new film, Onward, in theaters March 6, 2020. According to a brief synopsis, “Onward introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover is there is still a little magic left out there.” Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer are currently cast in the animated film. Scott Derrickson is returning to direct a Doctor Strange sequel. The first film released in 2016 grossed $677.7 million worldwide. Benedict Cumberbatch will also return to play the titular character while Marvel searches for a writer to pen the script. (Hollywood Reporter)

/Film exclusively released the first synopsis for Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out titled Us. While intentionally vague, the synopsis reveals that Lupita Nyong’o and Winston Duke will play a couple that take their kids to their beach house to relax with friends, including Elizabeth Moss. “But as the night falls,” the synopsis continues, “their serenity turns to tension and chaos when some shocking visitors arrive uninvited. Disney grossed $7 billion at worldwide box offices in 2018 marking the studio’s second-best year. The historic year was led by blockbusters including Avengers: Infinity War which leads all films this year with $2 billion worldwide, Black Panther in second at $1.35 billion and Incredibles 2 in fourth with $1.24 billion. The Oscars may be without a host for the first time since 1989. After Kevin Hart stepped down, The Academy has been scrambling to find a replacement. “A group monologue” is being considered as well as a rotating selection of celebrities to appear throughout the program. (Variety)
