Marvel Studios president and executive producer Kevin Feige told Vanity Fair that Avengers 4 will be a significant turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “There will be two distinct periods,” Feige told Vanity Fair. “Everything before Avengers 4 and everything after. I know it will not be in ways people are expecting.” Avengers 4 is set to be released after May 3, 2019. (Vanity Fair)
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, James Franco confirmed that he will produce and act in a new “X-Men property” with Simon Kingberg. There have been reports of connections to a new Marvel movie based on Multiple Man, but Franco told reporters of his interest in creating an R-rated film akin to Deadpool and Logan in the X-men franchise. Meanwhile, James and Dave Franco are preparing for the release of their A24 film The Disaster Artist, in theaters this Friday. Based on cult classic The Room, the Franco brothers confirmed that they remade “about 20 to 25 minutes” of the original film “beat-for-beat, move-for-move.” (The Independent)
Jude Law is in talks to play the male lead opposite Brie Larson in Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Law would portray Doctor Walter Lawson (a.k.a. Mar-Vell) who becomes a mentor to Larson’s Carol Danvers as she learns her new powers. (Vanity)
An official first look was released from Rooney Mara’s upcoming film, Mary Magdalene, in theaters March 30, 2018. Mara plays the female lead and storied New Testament figure, Mary, while her real-life boyfriend Joaquin Phoenix will be playing Jesus. (/Film)
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland hinted at a role in the Uncharted video game film adaptation. Earlier this week, Holland uploaded an Instagram Story video in which he plays the Uncharted video game “for research purposes.” After being stalled several times since 2009, the Uncharted film project landed a director in 2016 with Stranger Things’ Shawn Levy. The film does not yet have a release date. (ScreenRant)
With only weeks before the film’s December 22 release, director Ridley Scott says he has finished replacing all of Kevin Spacey’s scenes in All the Money in the World. Christopher Plummer was quickly cast to replace Spacey after accusations of sexual misconduct and assault caused Scott to choose a new lead. “We cannot let one person’s action affect the good work of all these other people,” said Scott in an Entertainment Weekly interview. Call Me By Your Name, which opened over the Thanksgiving holiday, was the top initial weekend platform grosser of year. The Sony Pictures Classics film was screened in four theaters with a per theater average of $101,219. (IndieWire)
